TIDAL POOLS SCULPTURE
Tidal Pools is a major sculptural work by the Tasmanian artist Stephen Walker created and cast at a specialist foundry in Verona, Italy in 1969.
The project involved the relocation of the sculpture to the Long Beach Promenade during September 2013. It was a complex project involving the dismantling of the artwork into 8 main parts, the craning of the sculpture into its new position and the installation of a complex hydraulic system to allow tidal water flows to the 5 separate basins. The project also included low seating walls, a walkway with steps and a boulder with an interpretation plaque.
Significant consultation with the artist (now in his mid 80s) and his wife was undertaken throughout the project.
